FDA HACCP Inspection and Hazards and Controls Guide Survey
Background: 2005 begins the tenth year of the mandatory Seafood HACCP inspection program enforced by the US Food and Drug Administration. FDA has stated that it has begun to review the "Fish and Fisheries Products Hazards and Controls Guidance" 3rd edition (known as the "Guide") which is used for reference by both seafood industry HACCP coordinators and FDA inspectors to establish and verify HACCP plans. NFI plans to comment on the Guide prior to release of the next edition.
Purpose: Results of this survey will be used to:
Provide comment to the FDA concerning clarity and content of the Guide (i.e., recommended revisions, additions and/or deletions)
Identify substantial areas of disagreement or confusion between industry and FDA regarding guidelines for hazard controls, monitoring, recordkeeping, etc.
Identify additional educational and/or research needs.
